Planika's BEV® technology is used in selected automatic bioethanol fireplaces to manage fuel delivery, vapourisation and burner operation electronically. For Australian buyers, the useful question is not whether BEV is simply “more advanced”, but how the system differs from a manual bioethanol burner and what that means for installation, operation and maintenance.

How BEV technology works

In a BEV-equipped fireplace, liquid bioethanol is stored separately from the combustion area. The system meters fuel to a vapourisation and combustion zone rather than exposing a pool of liquid fuel directly to the flame. Operation is controlled electronically through the fireplace's internal systems and sensors.

Automatic control and monitoring

BEV models can include automatic ignition, shutdown and electronic monitoring. The exact controls, app functions, flame regulation and safety systems vary by product, so use the current product page and manufacturer documentation for the specific model.

Installation still matters

An automatic burner does not remove the need for correct installation. Room volume, ventilation, surrounding materials, clearances, electrical supply and enclosure requirements remain model-specific. Select the exact fireplace before cabinetry or architectural surrounds are finalised.

BEV versus manual bioethanol burners

The practical distinction is automation and fuel management. A manual burner relies more directly on the user for filling, lighting and shutdown, while a BEV system automates more of that process. Neither format should be treated as universally suitable for every project.

Fuel requirements

Use only the fuel specified by the manufacturer for the exact appliance. Avoid generic “carbon neutral” or “zero-emission” assumptions unless they are supported by the product and fuel documentation you are relying on.
